Happy National Chocolate Chip Day!

4 Aug

I am definitely excited to celebrate this 2nd holiest of chocolate days (the first being of course the day after Valentine’s Day when chocolate is like 90% off ).  I’m so excited to kick off the inaugural holiday for this blog, but I must note that I celebrate this day several times a year.   And just to get a little sciencey, chocolate, especially dark chocolate, has many benefits including:

  • antioxidants in chocolate slow the damaging effects of free radicals which can cause premature aging
  • Nitric Oxide to lower blood pressure

    mmmmm C is for cookie!

  • Flavinoids to lower cholesterol
  • boosting endorphin and serotonin production-the happy neurochemicals

As graduates of Penn State University, we should encourage you to buy Hershey brand chocolate.

This is apparently the best chocolate chip cookie recipe.  Crunchy edges, chewy center, sounds delish:

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
3. Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.

And finally, here’s a robot that makes cookies!

So remember, celebrate Chocolate Chip Day early and often!

Bake bot isn’t very good with the mixing. He’s very messy and a little, well, robotic.
